New York ----- In recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness
Month, Samaritan Medical Center will be hosting a Breast Cancer
Awareness Dinner on Thursday, October 12th at the Best Western Carriage
House Inn.
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with informational displays by local
healthcare providers and other local organizations to provide breast
cancer prevention information and services for women undergoing
treatment for breast cancer. Also being held during this time is the
“Passionately Pink” floral contest, in which local florists
showcase their talents. Each arrangement will be judged and winners
announced later in the evening. All event attendees will be entered
into a drawing for floral arrangements and other door prizes to be
awarded at the end of the evening.
Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. with the program immediately following.
- Dr. Jan Turcotte, general surgeon, will emcee the
event, stressing the important support roles that friends and family
members have when a woman is diagnosed with and undergoing treatment
for breast cancer. The evening’s program includes:
- A brief presentation by Dr. Darryl Carpenter, general
surgeon, who will offer a historical perspective about breast cancer
and an overview of the technology available today.
- Inspirational stories told by two local women –
one is currently undergoing treatment and the other is a breast cancer
survivor.
- The evening concludes with special entertainment,
including a dance routine performed by a young woman whose mother is
currently undergoing treatment and musical selections performed by
local women touched by breast cancer.
The event is open to men and women of all ages. The cost is only $10
per person with any proceeds from the event benefiting the Wellness
