A good night’s sleep doesn’t have to be a dream.

Although millions of Americans suffer from sleep disorders, many don’t know it – or they don’t take them seriously enough to seek treatment.

Waking up during the night, the inability to fall asleep night after night, falling asleep at work or during classes, waking up unrefreshed after 7-8 hours of sleep, loud and heavy snoring, kicking your partner during the night, and general moodiness, depression or irritability can all be signs of a sleep disorder.

If you are experiencing any of these warning signs, you should talk to your family physician. Be sure to ask him or her about the Sleep Disorders Center of Northern New York. Most sleep disorders can be treated effectively so you can finally get that good night’s sleep you need.

The Sleep Disorders Center of Northern New York

The Sleep Disorders Center of Northern New York is a specialized medical facility staffed by physicians and other professionals experienced in diagnosing and treating sleep-related disorders. The Center’s team of specialists and consultants include pulmonary medicine, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, urology, and psychiatry. The Sleep Disorders Center blends the use of cutting-edge techniques and equipment with a caring, human touch.

Patients who seek treatment through the Sleep Disorders Center are first seen by a physician who specializes in Sleep Disorders Medicine. This physician takes a medical history, reviews symptoms and complaints, and decides which diagnostic tests are required.

Following the initial visit and evaluation, a polysomnogram (sleep test) may be recommended.  The test is typically performed overnight, and helps to pinpoint the cause of sleep problems and plan treatment. A polysomnogram is a non-invasive test that uses painless electrical sensors and computerized technology to monitor brain activity, eye movements, heart rhythm, breathing effort, muscle activities, and oxygen levels in the blood.

For more information, or to schedule an initial consultation, please call the Sleep Disorders Center of Northern New York at 315-786-4930.
