What is Cardiac Rehabilitation? Cardiac Rehabilitation is a supervised program of individually prescribed exercise and education that provides information and support to individuals living with a cardiovascular disease. Who might benefit from Cardiac Rehabilitation? An individual whose cardiovascular disease is affecting his/her quality of life may benefit from Cardiac Rehabilitation. Individuals who have experienced any of the following conditions may benefit from Cardiac Rehabilitation: • angina – stable • angioplasty • stents • coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) • valve surgery • heart attack • heart transplant • history of heart disease
Individuals with the following risk factors may also benefit from Cardiac Rehabilitation: • diabetes • family history • high cholesterol • hypertension • obesity
How does Cardiac Rehabilitation help? The goal of Cardiac Rehabilitation is to promote the fullest possible lifestyle for those individuals with cardiovascular disease. Participants learn to help themselves by taking charge of their healthcare. Classes are led by a team of healthcare professionals who provide the participants with personalized education regarding the benefits of exercise, diet, medications, and how to handle the day-to-day challenges of living with cardiovascular disease.
