Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is designed to help people living with lung disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, occupational/environmental lung disease, neuromuscular disease, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, heart-lung transplant, and restrictive chest wall disease. The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Department is located on the 4th floor of the hospital by using elevator C. You can contact the department by calling 315-785-4208.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation program provides a structured and supervised program of individualized exercise and education to improve quality of life and can assist in:

• Increasing the knowledge of pulmonary disease and treatment options;
• Relieving and controlling, as much as possible, the symptoms and complications of pulmonary impairment;
• Conditioning people to achieve their greatest ability to carry out everyday living activities;
• Decreasing anxiety and depression;
• Assisting in return to work and/or leisure activities;
• Promoting independence and self-sufficiency;
• Increasing exercise tolerance; and
• Reducing flare-ups and hospitalizations.

The Pulmonary Rehabilitation program operates under the direction of a board certified pulmonologist. Registered nurses who specialize in Pulmonary Rehabilitation and are certified in ACLS (advanced cardiac life support) work with you and your personal physician while you are in the program.

Your health insurance may or may not cover Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Contact your insurance company for more information. Pulmonary Rehabilitation Maintenance programs are self-pay.
