SURGERY
What to bring day of surgery
- Wear
comfortable clothes
- For children a favorite toy
- Co-pays that are required for your insurance
- Your Health Care Proxy information or other Advanced Directives
- Please arrange for someone to drive you home after surgery-You will
not be allowed to drive yourself or take a cab by yourself
It is strongly recommended that you arrange for someone to stay with
you for 24 hours after surgery
Please leave at home
- Credit cards
- Large amounts of cash (except co-pay and money for a prescription)
- Jewelry-including all body piercing
When to report
- On the day before your scheduled surgery (or on Friday for Monday’s
surgery) please call 785-4386 between 1 PM and 3 PM in order
to be given your time of arrival for your surgery
Please review any instruction sheets that were given to you during
your Pre-Admission Appointment
Your Arrival
- Parking for Ambulatory Surgery (ASU) patients is provided in front
of the Medical Office Building (826 Washington Street). You
will be given a parking ticket that needs to be stamped at the front
desk of ASU Proceed to the third (3rd) floor of the Medical office
Building-this is the Ambulatory Surgery suite As there are space constraints
we try to limit family to two members per patient
Interpreters
SMC provides interpreters for many languages. Qualified sign language
interpreters areavailable for the hearing impaired. Telephone
devices for the deaf (TDD) are available
Consents
A written consent for surgery will be with your physician prior to
surgery. The risks and benefits of the surgery will be explained
to you. Please feel free to ask any questions that you have concerning
your surgery A practioner specializing in anesthesia will talk to you
in advance of your operation. It is an opportunity to obtain information
to provide safe anesthesia care. It is also a chance for you to ask
any questions. Remember, every question is important if it helps you
feel better about your operation.
