Chemotherapy is the use of medications to help stop cancer cells from growing and duplicating. The medications used have a specific way to stop these particular cells, but because the medications are administered to your entire body, there are also some side effects since good cells are often destroyed.
There are a few resources in the local community for chemotherapy treatment. A Medical Oncologist will generally offer these services. In addition to treating cancer with chemotherapy, medical oncologists are also involved with overall general medical care and proper nutrition for cancer patients, pain control, treatment of cancer-related medical problems, and overseeing inpatient care.
